Absztrakt (kivonat)
Report on the waterbird censuses of Danube River between Gönyű and Szob (River kms 1791–1708) during the period August 2020 and April 2021. Based on the results of the waterfowl census (shown in Tables 2 and 3) completed during the 2020/2021 season in the section between Gönyű and Szob of the Danube river, we recorded the largest number of waterbirds (n=11 005) in January, while the smallest total number of birds occurred in August (n=515). The daily water level of the Danube River on the observation days shows Table 1. We observed the highest number of species (19 species) in January, while in October we saw only 9 species. During the 9-month study, we observed 29 species. Species that only appeared occasionally or in small numbers (˂100 per observation) included Melanitta fusca (max. 4), Mergellus albellus (max. 17), Spatula querquedula (max. 22), Mareca penelope (max. 6), Anas crecca (max. 12), Tachybaptus ruficollis (max. 1), Podiceps cristatus (max. 14), Podiceps auritus (max. 10), Gavia stellata (max. 2), Ciconia nigra (max. 1), Nycticorax nycticorax (max. 17), Ardea cinerea (max. 93), Egretta garzetta (max. 3), Ardea alba (max. 23), Pandion haliaetus (max. 2), Aquila heliaca (max. 2), Haliaeetus albicilla (max. 4 pd) and Hydroprogne caspia (max. 1). Species that appeared in larger numbers and quantities (˃100 per observation) were as follows: Cygnus olor: 0-112, Bucephala clangula: 0–1270, Mergus merganser: 1–143, Aythya ferina: 1–122, Aythya fuligula: 0–564, Anas platyrhynchos: 85–7132, Phalacrocorax carbo: 47–906, Larus michahellis: 44–774, Larus canus: 0–258, and Chroicocephalus ridibundus: 26–2647. Figures 1 present the dynamics of common species. There are 3 known Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) nesting colonies in the studied section of the Danube; in 2021, 325–335 pairs nested there. There were 100–102 pairs of Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea) which, like the Great Cormorant, also nests in 3 colonies. In the Mocsi-island are nesting 5 pairs of Black-crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) and 2 pairs of Little Egret (Egretta garzetta). There are also three known White-tailed Eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) nests in the section of the Danube (Nagy-Erebe Island Komárom Szent Pál Island and Komárom Szőnyi Islands); booth nests were inhabited in 2021 and breeding were as well. On the Radványi Island at Neszmély we also observed a nesting pair of Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca).
