Absztrakt (kivonat)
This study rigorously explores the complex concept of sustainability as initially defined by the United Nations Brundtland Commission in 1987, advocating for a future where current needs are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. Delving into the intricacies of sustainability's operationalization, it identifies a significant gap in the integration of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) methodologies with the broad, strategic aims of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), suggesting a missed opportunity for enhancing the efficacy of sustainability initiatives. By examining the potential of Sustainability Science to enrich Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) through interdisciplinary principles, the study highlights the critical need for cross-disciplinary collaboration in advancing the principles of the Circular Economy. It underscores the importance of sustainability assessments in business practices, emphasizing the necessity for clear objectives and comprehensive environmental and societal impact evaluations. Furthermore, the research delves into the integration of sustainability principles within education, the challenges of implementing sustainability in policy and practice, and the behavioral aspects of sustainability within organizations. It also considers the impact of media on public perceptions of sustainable entrepreneurship and advocates for Systems Thinking in sustainable business model innovation. Through a holistic lens, the study presents a compelling argument for a multidisciplinary approach to sustainability challenges, integrating environmental, economic, societal, and communicative dimensions into cohesive strategies. This approach is essential for making significant strides towards a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future, in line with the vision of sustainable development championed by the United Nations Brundtland Commission, navigating the complexities of sustainability with wisdom, adaptability, and purpose.
